Trailing 4-2 in thebottom of the ninth inning Bobby Thomson of the Giants stepped to the plate with two runners on toface Ralph Branca of the Dodgers. After taking the first pitch for a strike Thomson delivered a fastball about five rows deep into the seats. Thomsons home run gave the Giants a 5-4 walk-off victoryclinched the Pennant and sent the Giants to the World Series. It is one of the biggest home runs in baseball history commonly referred to as the Shot Heard R the World.
